Untitled: Motorcycle Journey

By Keana Specht

Lost and alone, this is how I feel! My sister Jennifer planned a motorcycle trip with her friends, and I did not invite them, and I am afraid that my sister may ditch me on this trip. I have no idea where I am going without my sister, the human GPS. Being lost is my worst fear! I sit on my Harley Sportster S in the beautiful parking lot where we stopped to use the restroom at, I look around me and I see hills cascading around me I see a riverbank near me, and the flowing of the water fills my ear. My attention quickly turns away from the beautiful scenery when I realize all the other Harleys are gone! My worst fear has been unlocked I am lost in an unknown place and do not know what to do! I suddenly got up off my Harley and ran into the rest area just to check if Jennifer was playing a prank and hiding. She is not playing a prank. She and all her little friends are gone.

I feel so lost and alone even more so than I did before. I turned my phone back on and tried my sister. No answer. I rack my brains to see if my GPS will work out here or not. My phone data stopped working. I was going to have to go at this all alone. My worst fear faced me, and I had to figure it out. Coming out of nowhere a car swerve right in front of me, almost hitting me. I screamed loud

“What the HELL are you doing man!”

The man looked at me in awe, like he had no idea what he was doing at all and that he had not even meant to do that to me

“uh, madam I am sorry I lost control of my vehicle somehow.”

I looked at him sympathetically, because he seemed older, and he was just having a dreadful day I could just tell.

“Oh, its ok sir, I am just lost, and I have to figure it out on my own and I am not a human GPS like my sister.” I said, noticeably defeated.”

The man raised his eyebrows and nodded his head.

“What happened and can I help in any way?” The man asked kindly

I thought about this hard, I want to finally do something on my own, no more relying on my big sister, my dad or mom. I need to rely on myself and my intuition.

I looked at him, his mustache twitching and his eyes glowing.

“I could use a map, my phone lost signal and I need to take this journey alone.” I said matter-of-factly.

The man looked concerned, but he forced his lips into a thin line and smiled.

“Yes of course madam, I have a map here in my sac, you are free to use it, and good luck to you, independent travel is another kind of beast around here.”

I swallowed hard being careful not to reveal my fear to this man, the last thing I needed or waned is this man to come on my trip with me, I was trying to become independent.

“I will be ok; I need to learn to get through these situations on my own.”

And with that the man waved me off and I half stood, and half sat on my Harley sportster s looking at my map. I knew the route I would take. I stood up, put on my helmet, and surveyed my place again. I hardly looked up from my situation since I found out my sister left me lost and alone. There was a valley of river water below I had never seen before, I hop on my Harley and drive down to the water, I step into the water, I fully submerge my feet in the icy chilly water, and I close my eyes. I am suddenly reminded of my past and the full reason I am afraid of being lost and it was being triggered again by what my sister did to me today. As a child my sister and I would always play in the woods and at a certain point, she left me in the woods and went home, leaving me to find my way home. Instead, I sat there and did nothing, I cried until someone heard me. I came to and realized that I could find my way home by myself.
